Do you want to know how to make the perfect Gin Tonic? We'll give you the keys!

If there's one thing we've missed in recent times, it's the *sobremesa*. Those gatherings with friends and/or family that take place after a meal and stretch on without us realising the time. A period we dedicate to chatting, relaxing, and laughing with our loved ones while enjoying a liqueur, a glass of wine, or a cocktail.

And if we're talking about drinks to accompany a meal, gin and tonic is one of the favourites for enjoying this leisure time. There's nothing better than serving yourself a nice cold gin and tonic in a large balloon glass after a hearty meal. Here at Casino Alcalá, we enjoy seeing our customers relish a good gin and tonic in the our restaurant's terrace, which is why we're going to give you the keys to preparing the perfect gin and tonic.

How to prepare the perfect Gin and Tonic

The perfect gin and tonic exists, and today we're going to give you the keys to preparing it.

Ingredients to prepare a gin and tonic

  • Your favourite gin
  • Tonic
  • Ice
  • A slice of lemon or lime
  • A good glass (Sometimes the vessel is as important or more so than the contents).

3 keys to preparing a good gin and tonic

A good glass and good ice

The glass should have a wide rim to better perceive the aromas and flavours of the gin and tonic. A copa de balón (balloon glass) is preferable: they have a larger capacity and, by having a stem, we can hold the glass without warming it.

When serving ice, it's important to ensure that the glass is well-chilled: add three or four large, solid, hard ice cubes. It should be industrial ice, made at very low temperatures and with desalinated water.

The most important step after serving the ice is to move it to chill the glass.

The perfect accompaniment

One of the keys to preparing a good gin and tonic is the choice of gin. There is a wide variety of gins with different flavours and aromas, ranging from sweeter to more bitter.

The gin should be cold to slow down the melting of the ice. As with most cocktails, the spirit of higher alcoholic content is served first, and the perfect measure is 4 or 5 cl so as not to make the drink too bitter.

The choice of tonic is also important. There's a wide variety and each one pairs better with one gin than another. When serving, you should tilt the glass and pour the tonic very cold and slowly so as not to break its fizz.

Flavour the glass

The finishing touch is to add an aroma to your gin and tonic, but don't forget that the gin itself already provides an aroma. Therefore, it's enough to add a peel of citrus fruit, fresh and juicy. We recommend lime or lemon.

Before the first sip, stir with just a gentle up and down motion of the spoon to mix the ingredients, and wait 30 seconds for the different flavours to meld.
