What would a good meal be without a good wine? Today, we present to you, along with Alberto Sánchez, sommelier at El Casino Restaurant in Alcalá de Henares, our Wine list for you to have a high-class culinary experience.
“The gastronomic offer goes hand in hand in complete harmony with our wine list, creating an exceptional union and conformity”, says Alberto. “We are looking for wines with soul and stories to tell; sherries are becoming more and more important in our offer, together with aged white wines. We value small producers very much, as they have a very positive surprise effect on customers”.
The Casino Alcala wine list, which features around 80 selections, is constantly evolving, with a wide offering of national wines where you can find wines from all of the great wine-growing regions of our country. As it couldn't be otherwise, international wines are also present, especially from the old world, with future new additions from countries such as New Zealand or South Africa. In short, “our wine list is a proposal made with great enthusiasm, passion and desire but, above all, with humility”.
Based on his experience, Alberto knows that variety is the spice of life, and for this reason, today he is presenting three essential wines for our cellar:
Choice of target: Ossian Capitel. Produced in the village of Nieva, in Segovia, among centuries-old vineyards and slate soils. This is a white wine for ageing that is only produced in exceptional vintages. It belongs to the Pago de Carraovejas winery and is a silky, elegant, full-bodied Verdejo.
Choice of red wine: Alión. It is the fruit of the evolution of a family of great wines, Vega Sicilia. The grape variety used is, of course, the queen of the area, tempranillo, also known as tinta del país in this part of the peninsula. A delicate, unctuous, gastronomic wine, very complex and intense. It is the most accessible way of tasting these great Vega Sicilia wines.
Sweet Option: Tokaji. Wine of kings, king of wines. We're heading to Hungary to discover a wine that's unique in the world, both for its climate and its production method.
